Hi All,

We are about to send off our WTR application. We were told that by NZIS that we must only apply for a visa however I am therefore unsure when a work permit is issued - at the same time as the visa, at the airport in NZ, once in NZ? Can anyone please clarify?

The Visa is issued first, then comes the work permit. In my opinion, I think this is the process:

1. File your EOI (Expression of Interest)
2. If successful and you meet the threshhold of 100 pts, then you may have the chance to be invited to apply (ITA) either for PR (permanent residency) or the WTR (Work to Residency) Your fate may still be in the hands of the NZIS...

I'm just not too sure if, when you submit your EOI with a job offer, if you will be granted the WTA or the PR. This is the case of my wife who is the principal. She will be interviewed next week for the job... I just hope that when we apply we're granted PR so I can pursue the career I want with the Public Sector. But if not, if we're granted WTR, then its a 2 year wait before PR...

If you are outside NZ when you apply, then you need to apply for a visa which grants you entry to NZ.

When you enter NZ i.e. at the airport then immigration will add a permit to your passport to permit you to stay in NZ.

The type of permit you will (hopefully) be granted will be the same as the visa type e.g. if you have a work visa then you get a work permit.
