If we decide to proceed with our application ( in 2 minds at the moment ) can anyone give me an idea of costs in somerset area for medicals and xrays . also for kids . I personally fell this is a rip off ( can say that as I work for the GOOD OLD NHS ) wish I was on the list to tick a few boxes and take some blood . perhaps one of my colleagues could do the latter ?

I have looked up on old threads but some go back a few years and the cost seems to have increased when I have looked ?

Just wondered if travelling a bit can get it cheaper ?:nice1

I can't comment for Somerset but also work for the good old NHS and I'm highly p'd off at the costs. I think Newcastle might be a bit far to travel but...
We've paid £55 each for X-rays, £120 per adult for medical, £70 for sons (age 2) medical and £100 per adult for blood tests. Grand total £620.
Haven't had the medical yet, that pleasure is on monday but the Xrays were very quick and efficiently done, in and out in 20 minutes.

Good luck shopping around:nice1

Just booked my medical will cost £240 for the medical, bloods and xray plus £2 for the cost of posting them back to me standard mail or £7 for recorded delivery. Also because of my BMI will need to have two further blood tests lipids and glucose at an extra cos of £78......using The Bridge Clinic in Maidenhead.

Yes i work for the good old NHS too and yes it is a rip off..........:exit

Hi All,
new to this I had been given a figure of £1000 for the 3 of us 2 adults and 1 child yippee budget saving! Yes I also work for the NHS but a pen pusher as I can not face the sight of blood!

Don't know if its because of where you are, but that seems high. We payed £700 for 2 adults and 3 kids (under 9). Adult £260 for everything, kids £60 each, but they did not need bloods or xrays.

Found my bit of paper when I rang round earlier this year.
I think it is a bit dearer in the South West from other figures I've seen.

I rang round the Cornwall/Plymouth/Taunton/Yeovil areas - we ended up using North Devon DH (Barnstaple) for the X Ray £80 each (no appt. needed)
Tavistock for the medical £155 each, blood tests £91.75each

... average cost is normally around the £250 mark per adult for everything.

Can't understand why the figures vary so much depending on where you're from :roll

I seem to recall someone saying in a previous thread it's half that cost if you get it done in NZ

It looks as though the participating doctors have a licence to 'think of a number and double it', so for the greedy ones, it depends what they think the area, or the particular would-be migrant, will stand.:(

Yes Red devil - I can confirm that medicals are much cheaper here in NZ. We are in Auckland (which is probably the most expensive place to be). I paid for our medicals yesterday & it was $840 for 2 adults & 2 4 yr olds. They even took our pictures for us!

Have you thought about booking the medical and bloods elsewhere and spend the extra money (from 700 to 1000) having a couple of nights away while you are there? Better than giving the money to the doctor.

We're in Somerset too and very close to needing medicals so I'd be ever so interested to know where you decided to go and what the costs were.

...We're a family of 6 and only one of our children will pay child prices...ouch!!!!

That sounds reasonable and we live in Herts. Where did you go? Also work for the NHS so slightly frustrating how high the costs are!!
