:uhoh I was thinking of buying a new laptop.and i was wondering if it would work alright in NZ. Was going to save all stuff from my desktop onto laptop before going as i am thinking of not bringing desktop. Will it be ok for the internet in NZ. or mayby would it be better buy in NZ. Any help on this would be great. I have read somewhere on threads that mayby the time and some other things might be a problem. Need to make right choice. Or would it be better to buy in NZ so that the home pages are set for that country rather than europe as i am not to computer savvy.

My laptop is fine, came from Uk and has had no problems. Only thing you will need to do is change the plug / lead. however prices over here for new lap top are not bad so you could download what you want onto a memory stick and buy new when you arrive.

I had a stop over in Hong Kong on the way and bought my laptop there at a really good price. It is a Sony Vaio and came with 4 different plug leads for different countries so I don't have to worry about adaptors/changing plug.

Our UK-bought laptop went with us on our trip to NZ last year, and worked fine (using an adaptor to plug in in our rented house). I think the only difference we noticed was that the first time one of us wanted to Google something, Google Australia automatically appeared. (There are probably other area-specific services, but that's the one we happened to use.) The time? I think that's adjustable on all computers, isn't it?

Our US Spec Macbook works just fine with a plug adapter.

Great information: Why would i need an adaptor, would it be to do with the different current. apart from the different plug size. although i assumed the current was the same, so therefore would the GB adaptor work. as you can see im not well up on electric side of things.:(

Just the size and shape of plug in use in the two countries (UK and NZ in my case) is different. Here's a picture of a New Zealand plug. http://www.energysafety.govt.nz/upload/40705/Plug.gif

We brought a new laptop with us from the UK and it all worked well. The only thing was that it went wrong and although it was a well known global brand it was not supported over here and the warranty was not world wide. You realy need to look into this if you are going to bring one with you. We had to bite the bullet and buy yet another new laptop and get all our data transfered.

The voltage is the same in NZ as UK, just the plug that is different.
If coming from US or anywhere else where the power is not 240v, 50hz, check your laptop power supply, some will work on both 110 v and 240v

My ac adaptor is broken and I can't get the part here in NZ so I'll have to send back to the UK. Unless anyone has inside info on Toshiba laptops,
