Anyone know the rules for just going for it. Would you be able to come over on a visitors visa for say a 6month holiday looking for work. The once I have a job offer apply send the family over.

I cant find much info doing this. Has anyone else done it this way. The points checker is saying that I have 130 points (without a job offer).

Would it be best to complete EOI now or wait untl in NZ and have offer. Can you update your OI if you get a job offer.

Any advice welcomed.

Hello Cheeka,

I'm still getting my bearings myself, but from what I hear when you're using a visitor's visa you should NOT say that you're coming to look for work. However, when you do and you get a job offer, there would be no problems in getting the work permit anyways - maybe someone who has done this can comfirm that?
(Also check the following thread for a discussion on this: http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16036&highlight=tourist+visa)

If you're sure you have everything for the EOI you can go ahead. Updating the EOI with the job offer is exactly what NZIS want you to do, and this will then speed up things considerably.

Note that if you do get a job offer and have the requirements for the Work to Residence category, you do not need the EOI, which is only for direct application for permanent residence. With Work to Residence, you can apply for PR after two years of work, and it's supposed to be much less hassle - can anybody who's done this confirm?

Cheers,
Jan
