Hi Nat,

This site might help you out.

We aren't paying into GB NI.

We aren't either from NZ Nat but we did when abroad before - from what I can remember you can only pay Class II contributions so didn't really help with accessing benefits etc when we came back. It may have changed now but am not sure it was worth it to be honest..

Cheers

You don't need to continue paying NI contributions for pension rights as NZ has a reciprocal arrangement with the UK.

So the time you reside in NZ counts towards your NI contributions in the UK.

I was going to post this link last time, but couldn't find it again until now.

Social Security agreement between UK and NZ (pdf) (http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/recip_health_pdfs/2005/sa8-oct05.pdf) is well worth reading.

It should also be noted that the information I posted previously is a 'general rule' , each persons circumstances may be different.
