After YEARS of trying to get to NZ and the second ITA submission (due to withdrawing the 1st 2 years ago when my wife was ill), we have a case officer and all of a sudden, my wife has a phone interview next week for a job at Christchurch Womens hospital!! It has brought things into perspective, we may have a job offer by the end of a week!

We have never looked at Christchurch as we had our hearts set on Nelson, but due to lack of work for my wife there, we looked at places that would have a need for midwives and have had a really good response from Christchurch.

We come from a village and our 9 year old son goes to a school with only 60 pupils in it. Christchurch will be a real change from what we are used to, but we are looking forward to the challenge.

Can anyone point us in the right direction of where to look at to live in Christchurch (or preferably just outside), within commuting distance of the centre, and, most importantly, where there would be a very good school for my son that would not be too big for him to adjust to, coming from a really small school.

Thanks in advance for any replies. It really seems like it may happen now, and soon!

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

We too were dead set on Nelson but have ended up in Chch as that was were the job for Clare at the Womens was :clap and we love it here.

Cant help you on the school front but we live around 20 mins from the hospital on the NE edge of the city.

Rangiora and Kaiapoi would be worth looking at North of the city and Rolleston, Templeton south.

Both have their pluses and minuses but as our 17 year lad is joining us in June we felt we needed to be in the city.

I'd wait till you got here and had a look for yourselves.

Good luck with the interview
:cheers
Ben
