If you've been following our threads, we're swinging between one thing and another but right now our hopes are to gain a place on a one yr distance study course at University of Auckland. Ok simple enough, apply for a student visa. BUT I'm hoping to be employed while I study. On a student visa you can only work 20 hrs a week. I have had an offer to be employed full-time for the duration of my course with the lure of making the position permanent once I've got the qualification. All dependant on getting the Uni place.

Assuming I do get the place, which visa do I apply for? Despite numerous emails to Immigration , I haven't had a satisfactory answer. The latest was that I could possibly apply for a variation of conditions on the student visa, but allowing 20 hrs of work to full-time seems improbable.

Any wise advice please ?

On a work visa you can:

Study on a course of maximum length 3 months OR
Study on a course of longer than 3 months if it is *required by your employer*

You could try to swing it your way on the second condition.
