Hi everyone -
we have a couple of kids - 9 and 10 - in the UK, and although we both manage work, before and after school care is a total nightmare! No before school or after school care which results in us doing a 'time share' or relying on friends or family. When we get to NZ we would both like to work - what are the differences? Is it any better? Are school holidays shorter or the same? It seems to me that in the UK they are no sooner back to school than there is another holiday coming up!

hi i've just joined forum & asked the childcare question on the introductions page i had some good feedback (i havent worked out how to quote from different fourms but if you go to intro forum then look at wolfie33 'hi' childcare info is there.

There are a couple of after school options in our area (after school clubs, hiring people for school pick up and a couple of hours), but I'm not aware of any before school ones.

I'm a SAHM, but others might be able to tell you whether they find employers are more/less understanding of parental responsibilities in NZ than in the UK.
