Well we have now had all the quotes for our move and I have to say there is no real difference between them so now I have to make a decision on which to go with. ( They are all so close I would expect any one to amtch the lowest quote). This is for a sole use container ( a reefer container I think) door to door.

1) Burke Bros - local to us - seem to give personal service ( the MD came to do the quote as they are short of estimators at the moment). They use various diff companies at the NZ end -said we can specify any company we do/ don't want them to use ( i.e not NZ Van lines!). Will be shipped to Auckland and then moved by land to Tauranga. Will gives us 4 weeks free storae in UK if we need it. Also said they can "put the conatiner on a slow boat or fast boat depending on what suits us".

2)PSS - national reputation - seem to know what they are talking about and professional etc. Got the impression we would just be a number in a long line of many. Quite prescriptive in terms of how much notice they need ( 3 weeks) and various others conditions. Will ship directly to Tauranga. No choice over NZ removal firm. Seems like might be extra costs - like £300 handling fee if we need UK storage, also extra cost at NZ end.

3)Anglo- Pacific - seem desperate for the business - have undercut the other two so far ( although I haven't gone back to the others yet). Said we can specify NZ movers. When I said not much in it why should we go with you he reeled off a list of other things they can do for us like help getting tax rebate, discounts on flights and other items, info etc. haven't got the quote in writing yet so not sure if shipped to Auckland or Tauranga.

So any advice / insights? Anyone in Tauranga who used any of these companies - what were the NZ movers like? Any issues with MAF - thinking it might be better to get shipped direct to Taurnaga as less likely to be a hold up at the port / MAF more likely to inspect at our home - am I right in thinking that?

Hi Tracy

I'm not in Tauranga so sorry can't help with that bit. But I'd be querying AP a bit more. They are desperate for business -why? Are they connected to the people that have just gone into liquidation?

What help can they give you with tax rebates and discounts? Do they have a dedicated person to help with that (sounds like an immigration agent lol!) or is it a book of vouchers you'll have to use in a three week period?

Just my random thoughts.. I don't envy your job of choosing though :no

Thought I'd let you know as you have already mentioned them. PSS use NZ Van lines if you didn't know.If you look at Moorfs moving polls, you will find quite a few people were happy with NZ Van Lines. You can always refer PSS or any others that use NZVL to this forum and see what they have to say.It seems that NZVL and the moving CO seem to have more problems than the rest. It is good though that Burkes give you the choice of who you use.

On a slight tangent... you haven't had a quote from them, but contrary to popular belief, John Mason will let you choose your NZ movers if you ask. You don't have to go with The Moving Company.
