Sorry this isn't a very nice thread...but does anyone know if you can buy Scat-a-Cat or something similiar here in NZ??
For some reason the local cats have decided that our lawn makes the perfect toilet (or the yappy dogs from next door are sneaking in when I'm not looking to do their business!!). Am get mightly fed up of having to check the lawn every morning and moving piles of fresh poo!!
Have tried orange peel with no joy...help please!!!! :(

I don't know about scat a cat, but I've found a water pistol works a treat, just shoot until they get as far as your fence, then eventually they get the point and walk round the garden boundary.
We're lucky the meanest, toughest neighbourhood cat has taken up residence in our garden and manages to scare off all the others!
Cheers

A water pistol would be good but the little blighters tend to sneak in at night when we're not watching!!
I swear they don camoflage gear and balaclavas so that we can't see them and identify them in the day!!

It is quite likely that it isn't cats, it is possible it's possums. We have a pukeko in the garden alot and there seems to be more poo around, though I can't be sure that it has the bum responsible. I know that ducks produce something no-one would want to step on.

I have heard that spraying citronella oil around your boundary works, not tried it though.

I'll have to try that one - thanks.
Nick - I hadn't thought about possums!!! I instantly thought cats as there are loads of them around here.
Have to say I never thought I'd ever see the day when I typed "picture possum poo" into google to try and compare a picture to what we've been getting on our lawn!!!!! Think I need to get out more :laugh

Vinegar and pepper (not together), are another possible remedy and there is a plant (which I think also has a lemony smell) that they are suppose to dislike. Perhaps someone knows the name?

I agree. Cat's prefer to bury their poo (usually in peoples prized flower beds :D). It's quite unusual for a cat to poo on the lawn, like a dog would.
When we lived in Edinburgh we had the same problem for a while, but it was foxes.

Having just looked at the poo cam on Biolytix http://www.biolytix.com/index.php I can't bring myself to google "poo" of any sort before dinner. :laugh

Ohhhhh a veg patch is a prime cat toilet. Think of it as free fertilizer. They're only trying to help :D
I can only assume they're trying to tell you something about the condition of your lawn ;)

There is a product available called " Wotchout " - cat repellant. Contains camphor oil . Available from plant shops. Possum poo is pellet like and not stinky. Cat poo... ugh .
Jayes fluid is available here.

WARNING! Don't follow the links if you're eating, or of a sensitive disposition.:D :uhoh
However, they might help identify for sure what IS on the lawn. The first one has various Australian animals' scat, including possum and red fox - are there any imported foxes in NZ? The second one has cats'.

Had some problems with neighbor cats here. Used cayenne pepper, which worked for a bit, but had to reapply after rain. (it rains a lot)
Also tried vinegar, which worked a bit as well....but everything reeked of vinegar of course. :p
The thing that did it and made the cats never come back was a motion controlled sprinkler. As soon as it saw the cats (movement) it gave them a squirt. Was a good $70 spent. We haven't used it in over a year now and the cats still haven't come back.
Not sure you can find something similar in NZ.
We used this one: http://www.critter-repellent.com/contech/scarecrow-sprinkler.html
I've also seen suggested moth balls, cloves and sticking skewers upright in the dirt so there isn't enough room for cats to dig.

Thanks for all the replies, pictures and suggestions! I'll have to try some and see what happens.
Was gonna do a possum watch last night to see if I could catch sight of any, but it started chucking it down so I figured they'd stay tucked up somewhere dry!!
Smiler - have just looked at that poo cam and it is gross!!! :laugh

My cat would love that - he loves trying to jump into the shower and play in the spray. He likes sitting in the sink and licking the drips out of the taps too.
He doesn't poo outside - he comes back in and goes in his litter tray, which is nice...

Lion poo. Any zoo's near you? Our local garden centre sells a lion poo based cat repellent.......
