NZ Herald reported today that:
Orcon has announced the first Telecom contract-free unlimited national tolls and ADSL2+ broadband package since local loop unbundling

More details straight from Orcon:

But essentially, so far only affects some areas in Auckland. The above orcon internet should be able to help you figure out if it's available for you. Faster broandband speeds mean a top-end of 24 Mbps down, 1Mbps up.

I wonder how long it will take to start upgrading exchanges outside of Auckland? But hey, it's a start!

I expect Wanganui may be behind CHB in the queue too......

We're seriously looking into it as we live in Auckland. Have just been adding up our average Telecom & Xnet bills to see if it would make financial sense. OH is the one with all the techinical knowledge so if we do switch I'll get him to report on performance.

From what I've read, comprehensive services won't kick in till later in the year when it's up and running completely.
I just wonder how it will effect things significantly. Will we lose the "knocked-back to dial up" thing?
