I just had some really nice news.
:P
It seems that whatever costs you incur as a parent for child care. Be it through a child care centre, kindergarten etc, you are able to get tax relief on it.

In our case this means at the end of the financial year when we submit receipts etc we will recover approx 1/3 of the costs!!!

I'm not sure if this percentage is true in all cases, or even if you can get this relief when you are paying voluntary contributions for school age children, but right now I'm happy!!! :nice1

Worth knowing isn't it and I don't remember seeing anything about this anywhere before.

Hi,
Thanks for this info as we are sending Lucy to full time child care and have not been informed of this AT ALL. How do we go about it then??????

Thanks in advance

Since we have a business our accountant will be taking care of it for us at the end of the financial year. I spoke to his secretary today and she said to just send them in the receipts at the begining of April.

I would suggest you contact the IRD people and find out, you could post the answer here then.

I only found out by accident. I had an envelope from kindy for voluntary donations and in small writing at the bottom it said contributions were tax deductable and a receipt would be issued. :nice1

At first I thought this was just for kindy as they are voluntary contibutions but when I spoke to the accountants office she assured me it was for all types of childcare!! :nice1

Glad to be of service! :P Let us know what the IRD say.

Ps How old is Lucy?
