Hi everybody,
Decided to join up here the other day, after researching the rules for returning residents etc trying to find out how long I can stay out of the country! Found all your post/answers really helpful.
My name is Nick, I was born in the UK and lived there for many years, been here in NZ for 14 years and 1 week ago finally applied for my Citizenship after being PR for all that time. They said it will take up to a year to happen, but hey at least I've got the process started and am 1 step closer to finally being a citizen! :clap :clap
Right, time to read some more posts.... :)

Hi and welcome to the forum, can I ask why after leaving it so long that you have finally decided to apply for citizenship?

What advantages does citizenship give you over just residence? Am I mistaken that even rezzies with at least one year in nz can vote?

You can travel on a NZ passport- safer if you are an American. Can also go live and work in Australia if you are so inclined.

The best of luck with the citizenship.
Hackswell - we want to apply for citizenship as I was under the impression that once we have this our boys can go and live overseas for years and still settle back here later in life if they want to. I'm pretty sure you can't do this on PR. (may be wrong)
