Hello guys
This may be a silly question but I do not have a proper answer to it. I will be travelling to NZ in a few days and I have to transfer some of my money to NZ. However I do not have a bank account in NZ. Which is the best way to do it? I can not carry large amonuts of cash with me, so I have to find a way to transfer my cash.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Honie

Do you have an ATM card linked to your UK acct? You can draw up to 500 dollars from your overseas account every day (I believe). If you have a Nationwide UK account, then you don't pay transaction fees and their exchange rate is quite competitive.

No. I am moving from Japan. I have an ATM card but I doubt if it can be used internationally. My account is in a Japanese bank.

How about old fashioned traveller's cheques? Or even traveler's checks depending on where start from.

(Note to self: Must get a New Zealand spell checker)

I do know that you can't use european/american atm cards in japanese atms. You have to go to the post office to use the special international atms to get money there.

It was a pain, but we got verrrryyyy good at finding post offices after a while when we were in japan. :)

It stands to reason, though, that you therefore can't use japanese atm cards in european atms.

Maybe. But if it's so, since the Japanese also travel, perhaps they have a handy alternative worked out. Worth asking, I would've thought.

Hi Honie!
Did you check with your bank? They must be able to give you a definite answer.
