I have a question. Are immunizations required in NZ? Is the schedule of immunizations as horrific as in the USA (we "need" like 36 by the time kids are 6!)? If they are, are there any exceptions or can you get an exemption? Thanks!

We came from the UK and neither OH or myself have had to have any shots prior or post arrival. However our 6 yr old son will shortly be completeing a course of immunisation against Hepatitis B (total of 3, each at least 6wks apart). In the UK they do Hep C but here its Hep B.

Not sure if there are any differences between what kids routinely get in the US verses NZ but somebody else will probably be along soon to advise.

The end of this thread has some recent discussion on immunisations:

Again what FoM said coming from the UK Hep B is not normally given and also different vaccination for menigitis (sp) here in NZ too.

You can find all the details you need regarding immunisations at this link: Immunisation (http://www.moh.govt.nz/immunisation) ,including their schedules.
