Just wondered what the general concensus is with regards currency when people are visiting NZ ... we're thinking of taking sterling travellers cheques and some NZ$... what does everyone else take???

Surprised you can't get NZ travellers cheques!!!

Thanks

I haven't used travellers' cheques since 1994. I always just use my debit card to withdraw money from ATMs as needed when abroad.

Are you limited to a daily amount though, as in the UK?

Took some cash in a money-belt, and plastic.

Does anyone still use Traveller's Cheques?

... errr, yeah we used them in Canada last year :o

Reminds me of an old coffee advert... "don't like change" :D

Not for the past 15 years or so. Our tendency is to take a wad of currency and then draw from an ATM - although a bit of a bummer now you get charged for using it!

We intend to open an account through ASB in London so that we have some money waiting for us in NZ and we can access it immediately.

... that's why we're thinking of taking sterling travellers cheques and put up with the hassle of exchanging in high street banks.

We'd probably prefer to use a MasterCard/Visa, but don't you get hit with daft exchange rates?

We took £200 in nz$ and then used the atm machine takes both debit and credit cards. Would advise you to notify your bank if you are going to use your cards as the tracking system for "strange withdrawals" may stop its use. :cheers

... yep, popped into Lloyds TSB at lunch and did just that, in case we go down the route of daily withdrawals at ATM's... however you're limited to £250 per day :roll
