I'm hoping someone can answer this, as I'm getting confused when it pops up during various threads...

We're keen to get over to NZ asap and are considering applying for a general work visa under the LTSS category, which will entitle us to a maximum stay up to 30 months... my query being, is this the WTR visa I keep reading about or just one of the many other options of legal entry

I must add that once in NZ with a general work visa, if things are going well, etc. then it will be our intention to apply for PR... which Tonix agency have said must be started around 12 months before our work visas expire.

Look forward to your response... this immigration malarkey drives you crazy

A general work visa and a WTR are not the same. They do use the same form (1015) but you have to check the different option.

Normally the WTR is for 30 months which the principal applicant would apply for and the partner would apply for the general work visa.

If you are a nurse, then you should be able to start your PR process at any time i.e. you don't need to wait for 2 years on the WTR first. Personally, I would apply for it straight away whilst you wait for your nursing registration as you won't be able to work anyway until then.

Thanks for the info. Ian... so basically, after returning from our 'recce' trip at the end of April OH should submit NZNC paperwork immediately, quickly followed by EOI and ITA and await PR... we're waiting to see which area of NZ appeals to us the most before OH takes up a job offer, which is why we've been holding off submitting EOI... we've learnt points make prizes :D

As you say though, it still makes no odds when EOI is submitted (within reason) as OH still has to wait 3, 4, 5 or even 6 months for NZNC registration

Thanks again for the info... keep you posted how we get on.
