dear all,

really need help... !!!

my postgraduate qualification has assessed as level 9 on the register, but it does not assess my work experience :(

so..., is anyone know the procedure of assessing international work experience ? I do not have job offer yet, but my work experience is on the absolute shortage list ( as a food technologist). can I just apply for EOI even my work experience is not in a comparable market ?
hoping someone have the same experience...

I think it's to do with relevance to your application. For example you may be applying for a job as, say, a rocket scientist with all the appropriate certificates, but your work experience has been milking cows for the past 10 years. Those 10 years won't count.

Sorry for the pathetic example but I'm more than a little way down a bottle of red wine.

From Section SM11.10 Requirements
Work experience must also have been gained in a labour market that is comparable to the New Zealand labour market unless:
i the work experience meets the requirements set out at SM13.20 for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage;

So if your work experience is in an area of absolute skills shortage then you should still be able to claim it.

And here is SM13.20 for you to check.

SM13.20 Work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage
a. Recognised work experience is assessed as being in an area of absolute skills shortage if:
i it was undertaken in an occupation included on the Long Term Skill Shortage List (refer Appendix 6); and
ii it meets the specifications for that occupation; and
iii the principal applicant* is suitably qualified by training and/or experience to undertake that work (including any specific requirements set out on the Long Term Skill Shortage List).
b. Where the Long Term Skill Shortage List specifies that occupational registration is required for a listed occupation, principal applicants must demonstrate that they held occupational registration while undertaking the work experience, if occupational registration is required in the country in which the work occurred.
