They have been advertising on TV in NZ recently and I think it has been mentioned in passing on the forum before but if you are house hunting in NZ this site is really useful. It is www.qv.co.nz
The bit I find helpful is the Infobase. You have to register first but once you have selected Infobase select the region of NZ you are interested in. Now type in the street name of the house you are interested in then the house number. If you now click on Map Search a new window is displayed that shows plot boundaries, roads etc. You can zoom in, zoom out or pan around to see what else is in the area. It even shows powerlines and pylons.
If you select the arrow head on the right hand border then right click on the plot you are interested in it takes you to another view (address search) which tells you things like when the property last changed hands. There are also various reports available that can be purchased.
Another useful site is for those in ChCh is http://www.ratesinfo.ccc.govt.nz/ which does what it says on the tin.
