I've been getting quotes from different companies on shipping containers to move my household belongings from Los Angeles to Auckland. Anyone have any good/bad experiences, contacts or advice? I'm looking at late May early June and would like to bring over as much as possible.
Also how long does it take? im guessing about 2 months?
how much did you pay? And for what volume?
any advice or info is greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

Talk to Ranier. I got a quote of $7500 from LA to Wellington for a 20ft container. They are a bit more than UPackWeShip, but they handled EVERYTHING. Three big guys came in, packed everything, did up the bill of lading, hauled it off, and now we are waiting for it to arrive here.
3 months was our estimated arrival time.

We are planning to go with Rainier to Nelson in August - so far everything has been fine (we are working with David Wiviott) - who is handling the NZ end for you? I'm interested to hear how the MAF bit turns out with them (given all of the pain others have experienced).

We experienced very little pain with MAF. IMO the key things there are: to handle their paperwork yourself, to overclean anything used in outdoor activities, and to have prepared a scrupulously detailed inventory of your container so you know immediately where a suspect item might be if asked.
Our US agents were Crown. I think we ended up spending more than US$8k SBA>WLG but the container was stuffed with heavy items. (The cost does boil down to weight times distance.)
