In my 20 years of long haul flights, Singapore Airlines have always been top of the bunch for me. I can't fault them.

Good to know, but how the hell did British Airways have a first place ranking in 2006 I will never know.I have never had good service on BA, The food has always been awful and the flight attendants were never very helpful. Unless we were unfortunate enough to get a rogue plane each time.I am a Singapore convert now.

We went with NZ Airlines. I'll let you know how they did come October. They were very helpful re bokking and seating etc. The only shame is we're going via LA, so we'll be flying over the sea most of the way - not much of a view.

Hi,
When I flew Air NZ I found them very good (apart from not having my veggie meal on board). Singapore Airlines however were amazing!!! So efficient and fantastic service! I would defo fly with either of them again!

Going that way, we went the Great Circle route, so NW over England, Isle of Man, N Ireland, Greenland, then down over icebergs off Canada, and diagonally across N America from there down to LA. Fabulous, actually! And coming in to land at LA, it was all the films and sitcoms you've ever seen - think, the setting for ET, and the Hollywood sign.

Oh I agree, it's gorgeous, it's just that I've done London to LA many times before. I haven't done Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia, which is what you'd get going the other way. And LA to Auckland is SEA, SEA and more SEA!

SA are by fsr and away the best airline I have ever flown with. After flying with Virgin to San Fran a few years ago and finding them every bit as good as SA I booked them again on the Oz to UK trip and was bitterly disappointed, so if ever I return to NZ I won't hesitate to book SA.

Friends we know are leaving for New Zealand tonight via British Airways and are changing at LA to air New Zealand. Why they did not go NZ all the way I will never know. Now it has just been announced that all BA flights leaving terminal 5 tonight must travel without their suitcases. These will be sent on later. Due to a major cock up with terminal 5 all flights are traveling hand luggage only.
Incidently we have been informed that all Air NZ flights and Singapore Air will leave from terminal 1 from June 1st.

Dave and Caroline Don't think you can beat BA on business class. Unfortunately only got the opportunity to travel when work paid :D

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but will be flying SA this August and after contacting them last week, anybody emigrating to NZ, and on showing the appropriate Visa's are allowed double baggage allowance (40Kg) which is great news, as NZ air only allow this amount via LA, which I have heard is not the best route with security issues.
Also SA fly Heathrow to Changi (Singapore) and then Changi to Cch direct, without a 3rd flight from Auckland (Obviously if Cch is your destination)....I am all for one less flight....So cheers to Singapore Air...They definitely get my vote.

We are stopping in Sinagapore for about 2 hours - will we have to check our luggage off and then on the plane again? We land about 18.55 and leave about 20.50 again.

If you booked to fly straight through, then no, you won't have to check your luggage again.

Have to say we couldn't find fault with SA either when we flew out last August. They were FAB with our son, especially when we let them know it was his first time on a flight - when we arrived in Singapore they gave him a card that all the flight crew had signed with a little teddy bear!
They were excellent making sure we got the special meals we'd requested, regularly came around with soft drinks, responded to the call requests quickly, made sure everyone put their seats up at meal times and during what little turbulance we had, etc, etc. All in all a top notch service!
Singapore airport is superb also and we can't recommend the Transit Lounge enough if you've got a few hours to kill.

Hi, Its terminal 3 at the moment until 1st June. It is only BA going from terminal 5 as it is exclusively for them. At the moment all this terminal is going to do is put people off flying with BA.
