Just read a thread posted in december where it was mentioned that UK kettles draw too much current for NZ system.
Any other appliances liable to do this, how about toasters and other power thirsty things?

Does this mean it's not a good idea to bring a kettle from the uk? - I bought a new one recently, and I'm saving it till we have moved:(

Never heard this before. Our UK kettle is absolutely fine so I wouldn't worry about not bringing one.

Are you sure?
Have you checked how much power it uses? Just because you can plug it in and it works, doesn't make it safe.
Electrical outlets in NZ are rated at 10A whilst in the UK they are rated as 13A, this means that the safe maximum load in a NZ socket is 2400W whilst in UK its 3120W.
Many devices in the UK can be higher that 2400W so should be checked to ensure that they are safe for use in NZ.
Main things to check would be Kettles, Toasters, Grillsm Heaters, Hairdryers, Irons but also such items as Clothes Dryers could also be a problem. Best advice would be to check anything that uses a lot of electricity e.g. if it has to heat something it is likely to use a lot of power.
BTW, our kettle from the UK uses 3000W or 3KW so is not safe to use.
