I was wondering if we could share our waiting times for assessments with NZQA? I'm beginning to think no two cases sound the same so just curious really.

I had a payment taken from my credit card on Feb 1st and have had an email saying the parcel arrived on 6th Feb, but not a dicky bird since. Does this sound familiar to others?

Hi Jeannie,

OH's took only 4 weeks from the moment the courier dropped off the package to receiving the actual assessment!
Mine however took all of 6 months :wah and was only processed after INZ prompted them (or so it seemed considering the timing). To be honest, at the time I had given up on it..

So yes, no two cases are the same.

Hi, Jeannie--My story is similar to Pebbles'--husband got his NZQA back in a few weeks. Mine--fast-tracked, mind you!--took 3+ months. It turned out okay, but, like buying a house, it seems a completely irrational and idiosyncratic process. Hang in there--Susan

It has been two weeks and yet all I've got is an automated email to confirm receiving my application (fast track)! DHL did that two weeks ago :)

Oh my!! December?!! And here I am beginning to wait at the letterbox everytime I see our postie. How do you actually hear the result? Did it come back with your original documentation, or was it a seperate letter or ( forgive me for my sarcasm here) was it an email?

I sent mine in mid-December, heard nothing until mid-January when I received an automated reply telling me what my application number is. Mid-Feb or so I wrote and asked about it and I was told of my Assessor's email address and that I would be contacted in due course. Mid-March my documents and an assessment document were returned via courier (and in the entire process I haven't heard from my Assessor).

I did not fast track my application.

:( I'm still waiting to hear anything from NZQA and have been in touch with the recruitment agency who are waiting for me to come over, to get me in a job.

They suggested I should email NZQA and give them permission to contact and represent me, hopefully to speed things up.

So I've done that, now I'm just hoping and waiting and beginning to feel like a faithful dog, waiting for the postman every day. :yes

Is there anything else I can do? I hate this hanging around/limbo time.

:clap NZQA have got in touch, I'm finally assessed!!

Bit disappointed that an Advanced Diploma has been assessed as a level 5, but don't plan on challenging it. What was the best bit? Getting my original documents back. :yes

Now I can enter an EOI and join the rollercoaster club.

I've been waiting since November 2007 for my full assessment. I thought there was a shortage of teachers here too!!!

Not surprising, on this record, is it?!

Hello, and welcome.:)

CanuckNz - I can't believe you've been waiting since last November...6 months.....that's crazy. I'm waiting on getting my teaching quals assessed too and I was kind of hoping it would only take a couple of months. They began processing it mid April. Looks like I'll be waiting unitl October then at least :(

Hope yours comes soon!

I'm waiting for my teaching quals to be assessed too. Sent everything off a month ago and the only way I know they have even received everything is because they've taken the money! I've emailed twice and the second time they sent an automated email back saying that just because they've taken the money it doesn't mean they're processing the application yet! Do you think that because NZIS don't need assessment (I have partnership PR) that they take even longer - or are they just totally inefficient and inconsistent? Reading some of these posts is not filling me with confidence - I was hoping to hear back by July at the latest so I can get on with Teacher Reg etc. Aaaah! :(

Well at least I know I'm not the only teacher waiting for their qualifications. I was beginning to think it was just me!!! It will be 7 months on June 7th as well. I don't know if the NZIS and NZQA know my situation - sure they don't prioritize - I'm on a work visa under partnership at present and I'm hoping to apply for PR (partnership) soon, but I'm this close to going back to Canada and teaching in September!!!

They told me in February that my application was in the verification stage. Plus I didn't fast track it as I knew I had to get a full assessment. Oh well, I guess I just have to have more patient!!:laugh

Not even "Fast Track" is that fast! I submitted on 4 March 2008, finally received full assessment result today. 1 week short of 3 months!

Well, I wish I had fast tracked mine now too, I had no idea I would be looking at a wait of 6/7 months.....or it could be even longer! I wanted mine sorted so I could teach (substitute) by September/October and then possibly apply for post-grad. university courses to start February 2009. I thought that applying for the assessment in mid April would have given me plenty of time but who knows how long they'll take....

Perhaps you are right Napiers, my PR (which I got through my OH's job offer) was not contingent on a NZQA assessment of my qualifications/experience and therefore perhaps they are taking their time and prioritizing other people's assessment before mine (people who need it for PR etc.)? Who knows? Timings seem to be so random!

Some interesting reading here. On the NZQA website it clearly states that they will take 35 working days to process applications. Is that a work of fiction? We are paying for a service, after all.

NZQA is the worst service I have ever dealt with. Everything mentioned on their website does not work for 95% of the applications and when you complain, their answer is always: "your qualification is being verified and we haven't received the verification report yet"
Whether you fast-tracked or not, it does not really matter. Mine was sent in March, fasttracked, and yet nothing at all!
