Hi All,
Have completed EOI and was selected on the last draw with 135 points. Last time (Oct 2005) we were also selected, but they disagreed with our points application and closed it.
This time I went to NZQA first, got prelim result, scored and then applied.
The question that I have however, does the EOI route give PR once you arrive or approved? I applied without a job offer, if I now got a job offer, should I rather come in on a WTR or is that slower (perhaps cheaper) than the EOI route for PR?
My biggest fear is the costs of schools. Seems international rates are much higher and this might apply to us if we dont have PR?
Thanks!!

Hi Chaz,
We are off in August and my son (18) has looked into education costs in NZ, and you are correct international fees aree ridiculous, as far as having PR goes then, that is what we are going on but our son has to wait 2 years before he is allowed to apply for a student loan.
However he will get tuition/course fees paid for.
We went EOI route with NO job offer, and we were granted PR, it took about a year in total.
Hope this helps and good luck

Thats fairly long. Still trying to understand the timelines too. Some seem to get in quickly (related to job offers it seems?) and some take a while ....
When is PR granted - is it a fixed time or when NZ Immigration feel its right? At least if I need to pay international rates, I can budget for it.

Just looking at your timeline, your first EOI was declined (as was ours back in Oct 2005). Its more 7 months from the start of the process as far I can tell, but yes, question remains - what is the requirement / timelines for PR?
For what its worth, we have a 3 year old and a 9 year old. More concerned about the 9 year old's schooling.

When you are approved you will get RRV in your passport which will be activated once you reach NZ (you have 12 months to do this in).
If you get a job offer then you should let your case officer know so that they can fast track your PR application.
WTR may be cheaper initially but you will still have to go through the PR process later, so its normally better to do it straight away.
If your children are going to attend tertiary education (university) then you will want a PR otherwise you will pay international fees, if they are just going to attend school then a WTR is sufficient for this i.e. they will be treated as domestic children regarding school fees.

Thanks, so to confirm, if we come over on EOI and/or EOI with job offer, our children can attend government school at the 'normal' costs such as $200 per annum etc?

You don't come over on EOI, you come over on an RRV (returning residents visa) which you are granted (hopefully) after you have submitted your ITA.
But, yes, if you arrive as a resident (regardless of job offer) then your children can attend schools or university and pay fees as any other NZ child would do i.e. you won't have to pay international fees.
