Hi i'm a dentist considering moving to NZ. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get registered with the NZDC and what is involved? I have a UK degree and have emailed the dental council but no one has responded yet.
thanks

Come on over - if the visits we have had here so far are anything to go by, you'll make a fortune!!!!!
Seriously. not sure of the information you need but good luck with it all anyway.
PS any chance of a discount for expats?

Hi Stevie
My Husband is a Dentist and we are looking at moving. Welcome aboard. We have not not yet submitted our forms yet so can't answer how long it takes to register with NZDC. There are a few other dentists on this forum so hopefully they wil pop up with answers.

Hi Stevie,
I am a dentist going through the immigration process at the moment but still in the UK.
Registration - you need references from 3 colleagues, certified copies of your degree, passport, birth cert etc. also you need to contact GDC for a cert of current registration. once all sent off to DCNZ, with appropriate fee, they will enrol you for the NZCOP exam. Once you have a pass in this you will get a letter stating that you are provisionally registered, subject only to an interview once you arrive in NZ to verify your identity. This is the stage you need to get to before submitting EOI if claiming points for job offer.
All the above info and all the forms required are on the DCNZ website. All the above has taken me about 3-4 months but I wasn't rushing, so it could be quicker.
What else do you want to know? Just ask.
I will try and pm you as the details could get a little tedious fro the other forum members but we may have to keep it on here until you have 5 posts.
Regards
Helen

Yea I passed the exam in october, careful though, the pass is only valid for a year (which I didn't know until i got the results). I will probably have to do it again as we aren't planning to go until December/January.
I'll tell you more when you pm.

Thank you
lots of questions answered there. Keep in touch over your move hope it all goes well for you. Where are you based in the UK?
I'm in Glasgow on the NHS and it's just draining the life out me average of 35 to 40 patients a day none of whom brush their teeth but have seen extreme makeover and expect the same results on income support!
