I had a medical/chest xray for my work permit back in November. I'm now in NZ and have just received my ITA - can I cross reference to my work permit application medical report or do I have to get them done again? I have heard mixed opinions on this - some say the medicals are held for 2 years by NZIS but others tell me that as they only last 3 months, they will be passed that date by now so I have to get new ones done. If anybody has re-used their medicals, please confirm this for me.

When we checked this we were told that as long as the medicals were less than three months old by the time we submitted the ITA then we could use the existing ones that they had on file, otherwise we needed new ones. Of course we needed new ones.

The two years that they remain valid for, appears to be once they are submitted i.e. if your PR takes more than two years to process then you would be asked to submit new medicals as the old ones would have expired.

But as its free to see NZIS, I would phone them to check anyway. The police certificates are valid for 6 months so are these still current or do you need new ones of these as well?

Ok, now I'm even more confused because I have just been given this link which implies that if you have already submitted medicals with an application and are applying for another visa you can reuse them within the 2 years.

At least my police report is valid till June.

Actually it says "if you are applying for a temporary entry visa/permit" then you can use the previous application.

For PR, this is not a temporary entry visa and requires the new medical.

If you look at the medical applicant's notes it says:-

What if I submitted a medical certificate with my last application?

If you are applying for residence you will need to submit a new medical certificate.

Thanks Ian - finally I can put this all to rest now and accept the fact that I will have to submit new medicals. Oh well, it would have been nice to reuse them but hey ho.. more expense!

It is interesting to note that this info isn't what we were told by NZIS i.e. it states you must have a new medical, when we were told that if the previous ones were less than three months old then they could be re-used - not much chance of this realistically.

I guess that there is some discretion if it was less than 3 months, as technically it would be valid for the new application.
