Why do so many Kiwis like to sit on the dirty ground eg at railway stations, bus stops etc? I don't just mean kids, I've seen people in suits do it to....

Tired legs? Having only yesterday evening attended a promotional event in a local bookshop at the end of a long day, found there were just three chairs for an attendance of twenty, and after suffering for an hour, thought, 'Blow what this looks like,' and sat on the floor.

I'm jealous of anyone that has railway stations and bus stops. If I saw one, I would probably kneel down and kiss the ground.

this made me laugh... I hadn't realised it might only be a kiwi thing. I'm a kiwi living in UK and I'm always quite happily sitting on people's floors or on the ground.... granted I do it with more discrimination these days. I think Kiwis grew up in a very clean environment. We never considered these things to be dirty just because we walked on them .... keep nz clean ! that was our motto and so we knew there was nothing to be feared from sitting down anywhere that took our fancy. And it so relaxing down there rather than sitting bolt upright in a chair :)

I sit on the ground all the time, regardless of whether I'm in my work uniform.

Granted, my work uniform is scrubs, and they're often dirtier than the ground when I'm on my way home...

I sat on the sidewalk waiting for the bus yesterday. My legs were kind of tired, and I didn't really think anything of it.

It isn't only a kiwi thing, but certain types of Brits don't do it, and I know I don't look at first sight like the type of Brit who does, but tough...!

We're happy to sit down pretty much anywhere too :o , but it really depends on what I'm wearing - I wouldn't sit on a kerbside in a nice outfit/work suit etc but if I was in my casual gear waiting for some time and it was the only place to sit, then yes, I would :yes I'm also a big fan of bare feet now in any weather!!
