My EOI was selected for 110 pts including 10 bonus pts for my BSc (IT). I saw some posts here claiming that bonus points are awarded only if the qualification is assessed as level 7. In case my qualification was not assessed as L7, the total points would drop from 110 to 100 pts only.
I got my ITA a month ago, considering the above scenario (I hope it won't happen), are there still any chances to submit the ITA? can I submit the ITA with only 100 pts?
Thanks in advance

I don't think there is any operational difference between 100 pts and 110 pts. Just be prepared to wait a while. Most likely many months. As those with job offers are prioritised. If you submit it now, you will not be selected from the pool straight away, but then neither would you if you had 110 points.
However, were you to get a job offer after submitting it, you could change your EOI (I think-best check this with someone who has done it) to reflect your new status, in which case you would go to 140 points or more, and be selected in the next pool selection. :)
If I were in your situation, I would not worry about the 10 points, I would submit it now and see what you can do about getting a job offer.
If you were on 100 points, with the possibility of dropping to 90, things would be different.

Thank you for your reply. Actually my EOI was submitted in October and was selected after 6 days (110 pts). I sent my qualification to NZQA and waiting for their decision. I'm afraid they may assess my degree as L6 not L7 and in this case the total points will drop to 100. Will it be ok to send the ITA (not the EOI) with 100 pts?

Ah, I think that they need you to back up what you claimed on your EOI.

However, it's not as if you claimed 140 and actually have 130. If that were the case then you would have been automatically selected without really having the right to be automatically selected.
Likewise, claiming 100 but ending up with only 90 after NZQA would be fairly bad.

But claiming 110 and only getting 100? Looking at it comparitively, I'm not sure it's really *that* much of a huge deal. However, I don't know the policy and I don't know how case officers think!

I'm assuming you don't have much time to get your ITA away. How long do you have? I would definitely look at it on that front. You don't want to lose the entire opportunity, so get everything in order (medicals, police certs etc) and wait as long as you safely can before sending it off. If in the meantime NZQA drop your points then just be ready to explain it in the covering letter for the ITA. If you don't hear back from them before you send off the ITA, then you could consider contacting NZIS to ask for an extension. Just see what they think about the whole situation.

The problem that you will have is that you have to have the same points as when you were selected OR that would have been selected in a subsequent draw with the new points. I dont think that there have been any draws from the pool with 100 points. If you were to send your ITA in I suspect that it would be rejected and your EOI returned to the pool to wait selection with the current points.
One solution is to get a job offer before you submit the ITA

Thanks guys for your reply. I'm so worried :( Getting a job offer seems to be impossible. I contacted tons of NZ employers and they all rejected to help me unless I moved to NZ on a visitor visa which I believe is very very risky :(
I hope NZQA won't put me in this mess

I agree with renew.
It doesn't matter if it turns out you have less points than your EOI claimed, BUT your EOI points must still be enough to have been selected the week that you were, or any subsequent weeks. IE if you had 130 pts and now you have 120, you would be OK if the selection point was 110, but not if it was over 120.
I don't think it has gone as low as 100 points w/out any bonuses, but you can check this at the NZIS website.

Listen to the other posts, I didn't realise that the 100/110 pts difference would be so significant.

Thanks guys. Just I wanna know why qualification points are only for L7 qualifications. On the points indicator, nothing is mentioned about that. Only two questions about whether the qualification is in a future growth area or absolute skills shortage, but nothing is mentioned about whether it should be Bachelor or Bachelor with Honors. What do you think?

I assume if you have your ITA you will also have a Case Officer? We did and emailed them with any queries whilst filling in our ITA - we found them really helpful. If you haven't got a CO then email NZIS and they'll let you know, at least that way you'll have an answer rather than worrying yourself into the ground. Besides, you may still get a level 7 from NZQA!!

Good luck,

L :)

with and without honours will give you the 50 points. However if you are claiming points for a qualification on the long term skils list you need to have exactly what they require. Usually a level 7

Hope this clears things up

I've just got an email from my CO and she told me that visa officer would depend on NZQA results to consider the bonus points or not. Does this mean that the assessment report will include something like "award bonus: Yes/No"?

hi mesh. nzqa will only assess your qualification and find out which level of comparable education (in NZ) you had. they don't specify award bonus points; as only immigration new zealand determines immigration points.

This is so frustrating. This means that someone may send the ITA and pay the $$$$ then NZIS may not award him bonus points and so ITA will be declined!!! oh no :(
