Soon after i place a thread about jet lag, we had power cut for half hour :uhoh not again as not ideal time with 7 months old screaming for food but i usually homemade his food hence lack of jar foods, hmmm better to stock up some just in case.....

I notice we had so many power cut but didn't happen in christchurch city centre (confirmed by texts from my OH) so must rural things?
BTW, Moorf & Stevec, did you also just had it too?

No, we haven't had a power cut here today... we do get them alot though, especially in winter. Was the same where we lived in Scotland altho not nearly as much as here - rural connections, in our experience, are always a bit more dodgy! :D

I love powercuts.....they remind me of when I was a child. The tiny villages I grew up in both had frequent power cuts that often lasted a couple of days at a time. We used to cook on an upturned calor gas heater (which horrifies OH when I tell him) and it was always fun wandering around in big wooly jumpers and drinking warm mugs of hot choc to keep warm in the evening. Mind you.....we knew the central heating would come back on eventually so maybe that was why it was so much fun roughing it :)

FOM, did your parents think it was fun, too? (Twist of the lip here as I remember trying to do my paperwork ready for the next day huddled on the edge of the grate with a candle, while M had taken the oil lamp into the bathroom. And our dog was scared of the dark, and would ideally have liked to be in in our laps the whole time!)

Hi,
We have 'LOAD SHEDDING" every day in SA!!! In our area, 2 and half hours each day!! A real pain at first, but it becomes part of your lifestyle after several months!!
Only one of the reasons we want to go to NZ!!
Keep well:)

Funny you should ask that because I was speaking to my dad on the phone not long after posting and he said was telling me that it was brilliant fun with no power....except he used to worry about my sister and I setting the curtains on fire with the tea lights we used to have in our bedroom. He also said it got boring eating beans on toast for every meal and he found it a pain having to heat up a pan of hot water for washing as aparently my sister and I were too wimpy to wash in cold water :laugh

This conversation is making me think more and more about doing solar panels when we buy a house!

Luxury! Ours gets turned off for 4 hours at a time. This load shedding IS the final straw for us and what got me off my butt to start the immigration process.

How I'm going to miss this part of SA (NOT)!

Three small blackouts here this evening - didn't last long - about 2-3 mins each.

I think I'll leave all the clocks blinking.... :roll
