We (as usual) have left everything to last minute and haven't booked anywhere for school Easter break :o Anyone recommend good place to take 6 and 3 year old energetic boys for few days break on South Island? Plan to go for a long weekend so not really wanting to spend too much time driving with two little uns but... We haven't really been on holiday as yet in NZ so... You can tell I haven't thought this through much :confused:

Any suggestions gratefully received

How about Hanmer?

As well as the hot pools (http://www.hanmersprings.co.nz/thermal/home/)(children's area inside) but the wee nature park (http://www.waiariki-naturepark.co.nz/), Conical hill to climb (that'll knacker them out - easy walk and nice view from top). Also bike-buggies to take out and a domain with a kids park. Nice walks, easy access to restaurants/cafes and not too far to drive.

On the way there's the Weka Railway (http://www.wekapassrailway.co.nz/), too.

Takes us about 2 hrs to get there, so about 1.5 for you guys.... :nice1

Hanmer springs is very good with children as we got three kids from 6 months old to 4 years old and they enjoyed spa pool very much:nice1

Cool wasn't sure about this cos if you say spa to folks in the UK you think pampering and no kids... So great to know that kids can do loads of stuff :yes Off to surf and find a good deal - of course avoiding the obvious :)

Also maybe look at a bach here or there if anyone has any they would like to post about??
