We are currently in the EOI process. Were selected on the 26th of March draw. I applied without a job offer - 135 points.

I have been contacted by a recruiter and their client is an approved sponsor. If (hopefully when) I get this role, my status changes and then my EOI can also be fast tracked.

Should I contact NZIS online via the EOI application somehow or should I just call them and discuss?

I dont know how long it will take before we move from Selected to the next stage ...... so not worth waiting.

Another question:

This company has offices all over the world, including Ireland where we are currently resident (South African Nationality) - would there be scope for me to be employed by the Irish 'office' and then transfer me to NZ? I know that this role is considered business critical for them and time is a major concern factor.

Im going to do my medicals prior to this - pretty much everything else except the Irish police clearance is done. Anyone ever done the Irish clearance - getting different suggestions on how that should be done.

I'm not sure about the transfer from Ireland to New Zealand but if you get a job offer I would absolutely get in touch with NZIS.. Your points count would presumably go up and NZIS (from what I understand) process those with job offers much faster than those without.

I agree - if you get an offer contact them asap with the original of the written job offer (they have to have it in writing) but an email to warn them it's on its way won't do any harm either.

Thanks, understood.

What happens if the job offer is from a company not on the 'approved' list? I understand there are some that are pre qualified .... do others need to qualify first or are there different criteria for them when they employ someone?

My partners job offer wasn't from an employer on an approved list and it didn't seem to matter at all. All the best

Thanks.

We are booked for medicals this Friday, but at €650 for the family - its rough. Added to that - they only last 3 months - not sure if its a risk worth taking. Perhaps get the job first and go from there otherwise our timing will be more 'normal' and perhaps a wasted amount of money on the medicals early in the process?

Not sure. Just had a call with my recruiter - suggested I do the medical anyways - not likely to be waiting 3 months. She had said that one client had come over and then found out he was actually diagnosed with something and he had to return back to SA, after selling his house etc etc. Not good.
