Hi. We are exploring our local restaurants / cafes, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for reasonably-prices eating places in Paraparam Bch or Raumati Bch? Child friendly please, as opposed to 'posh'....
We could perhaps start a thread of good family-oriented places to eat on the Kapiti Coast?
Edited to add: Evening meals as well as daytime please!
Cheers!

We like the following:
Rosetta Cafe - reasonable priced, fresh, ever changing menu (Rosetta Road)
Lembas - Raumati South; casual decent food.
Busy Bee - Raumati beach (near shops); was there Sunday and has cracking Chicken Fajitas for about 15 dollars; nice cakes also
Pauls, Lindale - bit more 'posh restaurant' but fine with kids. Quiet though
Mussel Boys - bit different and best if you like Mussels (they do other things also)
Lakotas (Pram Beach) - OK; nice atmosphere
Waterfront (Raumati Beach) - nice view and decent snacks. Main meals OK but restaurant section bit naff. Use it more as a pub
Ranjoli (sp?) Indian - only done takeways and seems to be going down hill a bit recently
The thai down in Prma beach (opposite Lakotas) has a very good rep but not been

I'll second Coast2Coast. Nice cafe and pizzas.
(Dine Out (http://www.dineout.co.nz/allresults.php?city=Paraparaumu&submit=Go) is good for restaurant reviews if you haven't seen it.)

Thanks everyone. Keep ' em coming :)
There's a nice (new-looking) pizza place on the main street in Waikanae, Heaven's Wood Fired pizza (no website). Takeaways, and absolutely delicious!
Has anyone tried the Cambodian restaurant in Waikanae?
Cheers,

We ate at the Heaven's Woodfire Pizza that Lara Croft mentioned. It was tasty, and the owners are nice. (They do gluten free. They will also do dairy free.) Here's the menu --

LaraCroft - yes, we've eaten takeout from Prah Ta Pang (Cambodian place) several times. Everything has been fine, with fresh produce and made quickly. There's a little bit of a sweet tamarind flavor in most dishes (or most of the vegetarian ones at least) that I don't care for, but I think that's just the style of food, and my OH likes it.

We've eaten at the "Rock Salt Bistro" on Waimea Rd (Waikanae Beach) a few times, and love it there!
Dinner for 3 costs around $100, but the service is great, friendly staff, and yummy food! They also have a kids menu and are very accomodating.
Definitely recommend it!

Rock Salt is indeed very nice as are both the Long Beach and Front Room a bit further down Tutere Street
Added bonus for us of course is that they are just 5 minutes walk from home :)

I need to note all these down for my parents' visit next month. So many wonderful cafes to visit, so little time! :) :D

Unfortunately the Rock Salt is no more. It is now under new management as the Drift Cafe (I think it is) and although we haven't eaten there yet, we did pick up a menu.
I must admit that I preferred the menu from the Rock Salt.
Just my humble opinion based purely on the menu items.
Check out here for reviews of other Waikanae restaurants.

Also we have now sampled the Prah Ta Pang, the Cambodian one on the main street at Waikanae and can report that it is very good.
For the gourmets amongs you, last night we heated up a can of batchelors "Mushy Peas" (P&S have 'em in sometimes) went to CJ Seafoods for Butterfish and Blue Nose Cod and chips (Thats the one with the big blue neon fish on its roof next to New World on the front at Waikanae), went to the chinese chippy next to Heavens wood-fired pizza for a bowl of curry sauce, went home and had fish, chips, mushy peas and curry.... brought back a few memories, just like going to a UK chipper.
CJ's is the best chipper we have found for Fish and Chips in Waikanae.

Now imagine if you could have bought all of that in one go......:nice1 I see an opportunity.
I can't recommend Heavens Pizza enough, only thing is that the large pizzas aren't very big though I find that everywhere I go :wah You should also try Samrat (sp?) at the top of Ngaio Rd in Waikanae very very nice and you can eat in too.

Totally agree, we went in there the day they opened and it has now sort of become a Friday thing.
I always take a large plastic carton of pickled jalapenos (which I now make myself 'cause I couldn't find any one here selling them) and sliced large green olives, both in my home made roast garlic and Balsamic marinade and they willl put them on a pizza along with the toppings of your choice no problem.
You do need to try a Garlic bread (garlic pizza) with pesto on it.... very nice.
You are right, the "large" pizza's here are small compared to the UK.
