Just thought this might be helpful to anyone else going for their medicals soon...
Best to ABSTAIN from alcohol for at least a week prior to having your medicals done!
We had ours done on Tuesday and I had a call yesterday to say that one of my liver tests (GGT) came back 'mildly elevated'. Doctor asked if I had had any alcoholic drinks in the week prior - replied that I'd actually had two beers the night before. Doctor informed me that the liver test is very sensitive and will often result in mildly elevated readings if you have a couple of drinks in the week before - particularly in women.
I'm not a big drinker in the slightest (maybe a 1 or 2 drinks a week) so was quite surprised by this. He said it wasn't anything to worry about as all other results perfectly normal. Says this situation is common and that I just need to refrain from drinking anything alcoholic for 5-7 days and then have it re-tested.
Wish they'd just warned me before I had those 2 beers ... there goes another £40.... :roll
Hopefully this prevents anyone else from the same situation! :)
