Has any body brought an NZ sim card in the UK before leaving?
I have seen a company called 0044 offering NZ pre pay sim cards and thought this maybe a good idea. They do appear to be a bit pricey £30 but I suppose that is for convenience.

I bought a Vodafone NZ sim card in the states before my last trip down. It's nice to be able to give people your phone number before you leave.
Last November VFNZ changed the expiration of their prepaid cards from 90 days to 1 year after last topup.

Brought one last night on E-Bay. Also opened a private post office mail box online. So i now have some contact details to give people before we arrive.

That sounds resonable to me, these businesses have got to make a wee profit. I will certainly be buying one, where can i find them?
And where online do u go to open up a mail box? that would be very handy, as we will have no address until we arrive.
Thanks all

My OH got one before coming out on his reccie last year April. It was great as it meant he could give all the recruitment agencies and contacts he'd made his number before he arrived. Also meant I knew I could get hold of him!
I know they seem expensive but it worked really well.

Unless you really need to give out the number in advance, I would wait and get one at the airport when you arrive!
Also, Vodafone usually do a special deal whereby if you register online once you get the sim, they give you an extra $10 or $15 dollars (can't remember) credit for free.

For us this was fairly crucial as he only had a week here and given that Anzac day was in the middle of the week, effectively only 4 days to do interviews. It meant he was able to hit the ground running as it were.
However, have to agree that unless you really need to give people a number before you go its easy (& probably) cheaper to sort something out once you get here.

I opened my P.O Box with a company called www.Privatebox.co.nz done it online with no problems.
When they receive any mail, they notify me by E-mail and I get an option for them to scan any mail for me and E-mail it to me or forward the mail on to another address.
