Hello Everyone,

Do IT Recruiters charge candidates a fee for placing them with clients, or do IT Recruiters charge clients businesses a fee, or maybe even both.

I heard a whisper that agents in New Zealand charge candidates, and I just wondered whether IT recruitment in NZ works the same as in the UK.

Regards,
Ian.

I have been speaking to Hudson and can tell you that they don't, and I have seen elsewhere that you should steer clear of anyone that does as the employer should pay them for finding you.

Cheers Alan, I didn't think they'd charge the candidate, but I thought it would be worth asking.
Ian.

Definitely not! In most cases they take you out for a meal or buy you a bottle of wine when they place you!

I got a bottle of wine and a cake. My new employer got a big bill :)

No, you don't/shouldn't pay a fee as a candidate. The employer pays the fee. As as hiring manager I do seem to eat a lot of agency cakes. Even short-term contractors seem to come with a supply of brownies! :)
