Hi there we are now to this forum and and reading some of the info as there is far to much to get through in one sitting......we were wondering as we starting the process of getting to NZ......what is the general concenus....is it better to use an agent to get the paperwork done or DIY? If you have used an agent can you advise of a good one as this is a mine field......we currently are half way through our EOI, have no job offers ( although one pending), not urgent skill shortage so alittle short on points as yet!!!!
We are also struggling to prove we have lived together for over 12 months, Phil still has all his bills go to his mum's!! any advise......one thing for sure we will make it this year!!!!
Look forward to hearing your advise...

Hi phill & Sue,
welcome to the formum, The general consencus regarding agents, is to do it yourself if that is at all possible. There is a lot of information available on this forum, and someone will usually be able to give you an answer before too long.
If you are a little short on points, have you had a look on the immigration NZ website, and checked the "points calculator", there may be a few more that you would be able to get, failing that it should be straight forward(and quicker ) with a job offer.
Good luck and welcome to the rollercoaster!

Welcome to the madhouse Lancastrians.
Advice, don't use the incredibly expensive agents, it isn't difficult for anyone with half a brain and they feed you a load of spiel to get you hooked.
There is a north-west meet up usually in Warrington of like minded members of this forum at different stages of the process.. go along, have a bit of a social and pick their brains and make some valuable acquaintances in the process. Andy-Dee is still in charge of those so drop Dee a pm or just do a forum search on north west meet to find out who/what/when the next one is if you fancy a go at that. The EXPO in Manchester could be a good one for you as well, give you an idea of what is involved etc.
Good luck. It seems so long ago that we were at your stage, hungry for every single bit of advice and it becomes all consuming, for better or worse :laugh

Definitely DIY, anyone who is just a little bit organised will be fine.
Have you got any dated photographs of you together as proof, joint bank accounts?
Good luck

Hi Phil and Sue
Yes, try and fo yourself. As the others have said, there will nearly always be someone on the forum to help you.
ABout 6.5 years ago we paid and Agent to do everything for our emigration to Australia, over £4k if not more. TBH they didnt do a great deal, then i fell pregnant and we pulled out.
When we decided last year to try NZ, i said i would have a fo about doing the paperwork myself and found it ok. Admit i made a call to NZ house too, but got through it no problems.
Good luck

A couple more points....
1. You will be costantly frustrated waiting for info from an agent, bad for your health
2. This site is awesome for everything you need too know
3. Don't forget this process takes time, which means you have time to complete each stage.
4. Saving £4000 is a great incentive, especially if you need that £4000 towards a house deposit, especially at current interest rates in NZ.
