Hi guys,
Embarrassing that I don't know this being a kiwi, but will I get a bill for appointments with ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialists and hospital based dentists? I'm in Wellington.
I ask because I have a recurring ear problem, jaw problem and wisdom teeth problem (they have to be related!) that need to be sorted!
Any info much appreciated...

AFAIK, if you are referred by a GP then the tests/treatment is free, certainly we haven't been charged as outpatients.
This link has some details:- Hospital Visits (http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/indexmh/eligibility-healthservices-hospitalvisits)
Not sure how this works regarding dentist treatment through a hospital though? Might be worth checking out some of the other links on the page listed or sending them an email as they know the rules better than the hospitals do.

Hi
At the Hospital i work in, dental work is chargeable unless i am told you have a community services card. Its isnt as much as a dentist would charge, but there would be a charge for consultation and any treatment.
At your consultation, the denitist would do a treatment plan, and we always ask the pt to pay before any tretament starts (which lots of people dont like too much!). Any treatment then not carried out is normally refunded.
As regards ENT, as long as your Dr referred you, there wouldnt be any chanrge unless you decided to go on their private waiting list. Unless of course you are prescribed any form of medication.
HTH, if i can be of any further help, dont hesitate to PM me if its easier, i am a Booking Coordinator at the Hospital and its my job to know these things and i can always get some advise from other colleagues who work in those 2 specialities you mentioned.
