Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give advice on whether we can claim bonus points for work experience for an area on the LTSSL.

We do not have a degree which is required to get the bonus points for the qualification, however we do have a recognised basic qualification in a job on the skill shortage list with over 17 years work experience in this same field to back it up. Can we claim the bonus points for the work experience or can this only be claimed if you have the degree on the list and are also claiming the bonus points for the qualification.

The online EOI lets you claim the bonus points for the work experience without claiming the points for the qualification which I think is a bit weird, especially if you need the certain level of qualification listed to claim the work experience points. The annoying thing about this is that in my husbands field which is on the skills shortage list it is rare that you go into the job via a degree, the majority are from a trade and apprenticeship route. In a department of over 50 people none of them have a degree, yet they are all qualified to do the job on the list and have years of work experience.

Sorry if it is a really obvious question but we dont want to get it wrong and have our EOI rejected.

Thanks for your time.

Sorry but i am pretty sure that the answer is that you have to have the qualification listed on the long term skills list to claim bonus points for work experience.

cheers

As far as I am aware you should be able to claim points for work experience based on the skill shortage list, without reference to qualifications.

Certainly work experience has an entirely separate section on the points indicator, it jsut asks for how many years experience you have and if that worj experience ios on the LTSL or in an area of future growth...

I guess it might also depend on exactly what your job description comes under on the ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations)
