Hiya all

Our on-line EOI status changed from 'Selected' to 'Payment received' on 28th Jan and has stuck that way ever since (we were selected on 29th Sep). I called NZIS today to see what was going on and they said we are still selected and 28th Jan was the date when they started verifying our application.

Has anybody else had this happen to them? It seems to be taking longer than other forum members' applications. I'm getting a little worried. :uhoh

Hi Sandra.. I wonder if you are experiencing the same attitude from NZIS as we did.. our EOI to ITA period was long and when I questioned the immigration guys they said "well, you have work visa's so you're okay for a year or two" almost as if they put us on a non-urgent pile as we were here and sorted for the time being...

Yeh Moorf - I was thinking that myself, as I remember your post when Woz got his job and they said what are you worrying about, your here and have a visa. Seems to me from Douglas's time line that they prefer to process people first who are still not in NZ.

Please people can you up-date your entry. I know Bbq was selected same time as us with same number of points but are much further down the road than we are.

We do have a little problem in that Dave resigned from the Chartered Institute of Structural Engineers ages ago and then re-applied to join when we realized that it might be vital for our app. for PR. He was paying the fees with absolutely no benefit from them - that's why he resigned. The Institute knocked him back as he doesn't have a degree but went through the HNC route many years ago and now they say he should be degree qualified, which is ridiculous as he still had to do the C. Eng exams and passed them when he was 24. He couldn't use C. Eng qual after his name because he was too young at the time - you had to be 25. So much for being a genius. Dave has appealed the decision as it is vital to our future here and they are 'considering it'. Hah!!! So if NZIS check with the Institute, they may say that's he's not registered.

Also the same problem with my banking qual. I was a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers until I left the bank in 1993 and I can only use Cert. CIOB after my name while I am a member of the Institute. Anybody else had the same problem with quals?

I haven't had the same prob with my quals (M.IDM - Member Institute of Direct Marketing)as it isn't on the POL.. what I do know is that often the Institutes do little for you except allow you to put letters after your name and charge you for the pleasure! Ok, you get access to info and a knowledge-base that non-members don't have but I stopped paying mine a few years back and I don't miss the mag or the initials!! It's surprising to think that immigration put so much emphasis on being a member!

My other membership was qual based (Chartered Inst of Mktg) which did give a little more ooomph to career but IMHO on the job experience counts for so much more.

Dave & Sandra,
Our's reads 'payment received' as well, and has since December or so. But no ITA yet. Don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.

Well - now I know the reason for the delay. Received a letter from NZIS this morning which I opened with trembling fingers.

They have queried Dave's qualification on the EOI :eek and were threatening to deduct 10 points for his qualification which would put us down to 95 points :wah

I had put that he was a Chartered Structural Engineer and that he is a member of the Institute of Structural Engineers. He did the institute exams after he received his HNC in Structural Engineering. Our case officer enclosed the booklet listing recognised quals and of course his qualification isn't listed, but an HNC in Engineering is listed. So I called the case officer and explained that his original qualification (HNC) is listed but I had filled in the EOI with the higher qualification, assuming that this would have more clout. As soon as I said HNC she said fine.

I said I could fax through his qualification and she said as soon as she receives it in writing then she can reinstate his points and issue an ITA. There were no other problems on the app :clap :clap :clap

I am still shaking :hopeso :hopeso :hopeso :hopeso

I bet reading that letter would qualify as cardio vascular exercise.

Good to know all is well again, fingers crossed for the ITA.

hello dave and sandra and nw2nz

wow, what great news. gives me something to look forward too. still waiting for that change from selected to successful. maybe it'll come when our school year has ended which is about early march. ric and i both teach and he's school administrator, and our school calendar here ends march. so probably the nzis is waiting for us to go into summer vacation so that we can focus our energies on our ita's.

am i rationalizing or keeping my hopes up? :uhoh

anyway, good luck to the next phase of your migration processes... and see you in nz!

Woo-hoo! Well done, all. Now the fun of finishing the gathering of your paperwork (if not done already). If it's not way too "duh!" to say this, it really is a good idea to read aloud to someone (each other?) everything they ask for on the ITA to make sure you haven't missed anything that will avoidably delay you getting your ITA off. More than one person here has not had the long-form birth cert. in hand, for instance. Sometimes it's not until you've got your coat on and on the way to the post office that some item of paperwork suddenly leaps out at you from nowhere! :nice1

Cheers,
Matt.

Re. what I just wrote, believe me: it happens. Eeven when you think you've done all your homework. Years ago, the night before my big medicals-and-interview visit to the US embassy in London, to get my US permanent residence, I suddenly realized the long-form birth cert. thing. :uhoh And I'd gone through that pack as carefully as you'd expect knowing the US bureaucracy reputation! It all got worked out, but still.

Cheers,
Matt.
