Hi,

I have been tracking flights with Singapore air now for months, but prudence dictated not to book a flight until the house sale went through, for obvious reasons.
Since we completed last week, I naturally went to book a flight woth SA.
To my astonishment, ALL flights from London to Christchurch in July are gone, presumably fully booked.
When I checked our departure date, which is Saturday 2nd August (Due to having to leave our rental) they are gone as well, where as last week there were plenty.
Does this mean that is it, or are SA playing games with the prices and causing a buying frenzy and holding seats back until nearer the departure?
Another thought that occurred to me is that the olympics in Beijing begin on Friday 8th August, and maybe that has caused the shortage, with Singapore being a gateway to the East.
The reason for choosing SA is that they have confirmed we can have 40Kg each on baggage as we are emigrating and also it is only 2 quite even flights, which appealed to the wife and we preferred to avoid LA with NZAir.
I know we could choose another airline, but thought I would ask around for opinions before we make a commitment.

Any thoughts

Steve & Julie

Can't help you there - I just put in the date of the 2nd August to try and I managed to get seats:confused: mind you - they weren't cheap!

I've just checked on the website I used to book some of our our flights ... www.justtheflight.co.uk and they have tickets available but they are £2000 each but that is business class. Altho economy is showing as £3000 each??!!!!...

Sorry can't be more help.

I'd advise you to phone the SA reservation line as have found them helpful in the past....

Good luck and hope you get it sorted!

Wow!!

Still a lot but loads better than I found then!!

We did a few stops to visit friends across America on our way here to NZ so it was cheaper to book all our flights individually online and for some that site was cheapest and for others it was best either direct online or by calling... (Like I called the American office of Air New Zealand for the LA to Christchurch leg and paid in US dollars so got a good exchange rate!:clap )

I should have emailed you Tanya to do all my booking!!! ha ha ha...

I had been checking SA for flights in September. When our EOI was selected and we got our ITA we were able to seriously look at the flights. We planned to wait until nearer the time to book but I noticed that the date and time we wanted to fly suddenly became unavailable so I quickly looked on the following day and they had seats & tickets. The price had begun to creep up too so I took the bull by the horn and have booked. I realise that some may come available later at a cheaper price but with 5 of us I didn't want to take the chance. All in all it is costing us about £2500 for 5 to Chch.

It could have something to do with the Olympics or maybe because SA have been voted the best airline to travel with. :yes

We flew with Emirates from Birmingham to Christchurch, they does take 40kg per person as along as you got PR visa to prove it.

Just remember that your PR has to be unused to get the xtra baggage allowance w SIA ie. you can't have come to NZ on holiday/recce on that visa. As we found to our chagrin.....
