Bad news for me this week, the contract I was working on has run into funding issues (it's complicated) hence two of the three of us working on the project have had to be laid off.
:no

This was always a possibility, but it looked like all would be well for at least another couple of months, but it has all gone a bit pear shaped on the finances front.

So, back on the job hunt again. There is a good chance that things will sort themselves out on the old project and I would snap the guys hand off if he gets sorted and asks me back (it was a great job, loved it), but I can't afford to sit and wait in hope, so seek.co.nz will become my new best friend again.

Ideally I'll find something short term which gives me the chance to take my time finding a longer term/permanent post that I would be happy with or the old project to rise again, but all opportunities need to be investigated.

On the plus side it gives me plenty of time to pack boxes for the house move, we won't need to pay for a child minder over school holidays, I can complete my ITIL training and I can spend time posting ridiculous messages on here (don't all cheer at once)
:clap

You're pretty awesome to be looking on the bright side after news like that, but with that sort of attitude you're bound to have an even better job not so far away.

An even better job would be truly awesome, that one really was a dream job.

I had a great job when I was at Green Flag in Leeds too (that one was ended by third party intervention as well), surely there can't be a third job as good out these two, can there?

I guess good things rarely last for ever. Ho hum, happy times, happy memories, onto the next one, onwards and upwards.

Cheers for the support though.

They say a job is what you make it, so maybe it's me that's brilliant and the jobs were just jobs ? Yes that thought will do me for tonight.

Hey sorry to hear your news, but just to let you know that your not on your own....I am currently in the same process after working for a company as a Manager for 13 years, however that has made my decision to start the relocation process sooner that we 1st thought, My partner is security alarm engineer, What is the sucess rate of the job search place seek like? will they entertain applications from prospective emigrants? Just wading through EOI but jobs offers would make it whole deal easier???

Good luck with your search will look forward to our chats on line as both search internet!!!!!

Sorry to hear this news Sam, but as mentioned, one door closes etc....

Hear they are looking for bar people with a sense of humour in the Prince Albert in Cambridge? And they do food, so you could play with the veggies and chipolatas ;) :laugh

Sorry to hear you're out of a job and wishing the very best of luck finding another.

Know what you mean though about finding jobs you love, the one I left in the UK was my favourite job of all my working career. I'm now finding it hard to get motivated to look for a job here as I think at the back of my mind I'm convinced I won't find anything I enjoy as much. Ho Hum!

Looking forward to reading your posts.

Belly dancer maybe. There's plenty to go around, the ladies won't be disapointed.
:nice1

Actually I was thinking maybe:

Cricket Commentator (googlies over your silly point etc...)
Beer Taster (not sure, might need another sip of that one etc...)
Vegetable Judge (what a co-incidence, I have a thingy shaped like a turnip etc...)
Chipolata Trainer (Sit! Sizzle! etc...)

Can't seem to find any openings for those on seek though.....

I left school in the early 80's (dearest Margaret's era ) and married a sheet metal worker.
Neither of which gave me any security at all in the job market and we spent the first two years of our marriage either on the dole after the umpteenth redundancy or working apart.

It hardened me off to the point where I'm afraid I only go to work for one reason now.
So much so - we live where the work currently is - full stop.

Tell them to stuff their job and move to another place ..... someone better deserves your loyalty.
:nice1:cheers

Sam, I'm sure with your vegetable hiding talents you'll soon pick up something - maybe a job as a children's entertainer?
