I am about to submit our ITA complete with job offer. I have just read all the guidelines again and read about section 18A. I was always under the impression that you had to start work within 3 months of arriving (or activating your PR) if you claimed points for a job offer. We are due to arrive in September and I am due to start work on 6th Oct. Now I am a little worried that I have to start work within 3 months of being granted PR - ie. when the blue stickers are put in my passport. If this is the case and they grant my PR before July I could have a problem. Can anyone clarify this for me?

I'm pretty sure the 3 months starts on the day you take up residence in NZ.

Hi Nicky,
This is from the NZIS website
"A residence visa
If you were issued a residence visa, you must still meet some requirements to ensure you remain a New Zealand resident.
If you claimed points for an offer of skilled employment, you must take that job up within three months of being granted your permit. You must also stay in that job for at least three months and provide us with evidence that you have met these requirements within seven months of being granted your first residence permit.
If you got points for already having a skilled job that you have held for less than three months, you must stay in the job until three months is up."
As I understand it a visa becomes a permit once you enter the country.
So arriving in sept and beginning work in oct will be fine.
Good Luck with it.

Yep what Helen said - the permit is activated once you enter NZ so you should be fine Nicky :)
