and another question...

I took my son to an optometrist on Saturday, and it turns out he needs glasses. He got the prescription, we picked the frames, and can pick the glasses up next week. This will all be paid privately by us.

Is this the way it normally works here? Should we have done this differently, is there a cheaper option to bear in mind for next time? Didn't occur to me to ask at the place, of course, as I was consoling an unhappy child...

Thanks for advice,

Daniela

Theres no discount for children on glasses - I know from experience. We were referred to a Behavioural Optometrist:confused: from the Dr at the hospital here in CHCH and we paid through the nose. We were told she needed glasses

When I went back for a check up at the hospital with her - they couldnt understand why she had been prescribed glasses and wrote to him complaining and telling him to refund us. We never heard from him and nor did the hospital - so nearly $400 later and we have glasses arent necessary!

Not a happy bunny:mad:

What is a behavioural optometrist when its at home?!

I'm sorry you were prescribed glasses unnecessarily, you're quite right to be mad!

You have me worried now, thinking we should get a second opinion.

Sigh. Thanks for letting me know, though, I had thought as much, but just wanted to make sure I haven't overlooked something here.

Didnt mean to worry you - My daughters eye problem was not going to be corrected with glasses - which is why the hospital couldnt understand why she was prescribed them! The fact that he didnt reply to their letter made me mad - but since then - I have had my sons eyes checked here by another optometrist -he used to wear glasses in the UK for a year about 4 years ago and decided not to continue wearing them - he was fine and no glasses necessary. So there are good ones out there - I am sure yours was fine too.

Sorry to stress you!

After my recent experience with opticians, I'd certainly recommend a second opinion.
