It's a bit of a long story, but here goes....
My OH and I decided that NZ was the place for us having spent 2 months travelling around lasy year. During this visit we met with immigration agents that with a job offer for Andy outside of NZ we would qualify for residency.

We felt that we had nothing to loose by returning to NZ this year (we have now been back in the country for nearly 3 weeks) and looking for suitable work for OH (as a commercial door technician). The plan was for me to enter on a WHV and for Andy to enter on the 6 month tourist visa and apply for a work permit once work had been found.

A few months before our departure we sent out CVs etc to about 50 relevant companies - with a great response. One company was very interested and just 2 weeks before we were due to leave the UK, after telephone interview Andy was offered the job of door technician :clap Being so close to our date of departure it didn't give Andy enough time to apply for the work permit in the UK, but decided to go ahead with the police checks and medicals as the company were keen for him to start asap.

We set off from the UK, having gotten married just 4 days before hand, for a 3 week honeymoon in the Philippines, and just on top of the world at the thought of our new life in NZ.

Having now arrived in the country it has turned out too good to be true :wah

Our first stop was obviously the immigration department with what we thought was all the necessary documentation ready to lodge the work permit application (job description, letter from company stating the offer of job and why it had to be Andy, evidence that the job had been advertised etc), but they said that a contract was also needed.

We told the company this but it was a week before Andy was finally able to meet with the boss, it turned out that they had decided to fill the technician position and offered Andy a sales role instead - something he has no experience in!! Also, we're pretty sure that for the residency application to go smoothly a techncian role is essential.

So we are now back to square one - no big deal really, and Andy has managed to line up a couple of interviews with other companies.

Sorry for the rather long-winded rant, but I feel much better having gotten it off my chest!

One quiery we do have is that the medical is due to expire in just over 3 weeks time - is it possible to get an extension on it does anyone know?
