Just had one of the estimators from PSS around and he seemed okay'ish apart from being like an up market double glazing salesman.

Anyway he started giving the patter around door to door removals etc., so I asked him about their use of agents and the lack of control they have when things go wrong etc. He didn't like me asking to be honest and when I mentioned Crown Relocations he started saying they were all franchises and it really wasn't any different etc.

I dropped Crown a line and got a call within minutes to tell me that this was completely false that the company is owned globally by one person and they have no franchises whatsoever or other people running their operations. I also had never seen anything indicating that this was the case either.

Guess what, we won't be using PSS if they can't even tell us the truth on the first visit.

PSS didn't even bother getting in touch with me after I left a quotation request on their website, if they can't be bothered at the first stage I'm certainly not giving them my business.

I found they were quick to slag off other companies & he was a bit of a slime ball.
If you can use one company all the way through then I would pay more for that service after my experience with JM & TMC

In defence of PSS, I was impressed by their agent who wasn't a 'slimeball' and was as honest as he could with me. The Crown agent never showed up so I crossed them of my list for attitude.

The whole experience with PSS was excellent. Communication was always timely, the packers were brilliant (nothing was damaged or missing this end), communication with NZVL this end was also very good and their delivery guys fantastic (they unpacked the big items, put beds together etc)

I think with all these companies, it really depends on which area you are in the UK for the agent and the packing team.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Our PSS experience was average (our packers UK end - North London were fantastic, NZ end not so good), but the money I saved compared with going with Crown was huge. I know of people who have had problems with both companies.. (I got quotes from 4 companies in total).

Our wordly goods don't consist of many very expensive items, so I guess it just depends on your attitude to risk. Convert any savings into dollars, work out how much it is compared to a months wage in NZ, then ask yourself if the extra cost is worth it. If you think the risk is minimal then you can spend your savings on something nice when you get to NZ.

We had the same attitude with the insurance, we didn't fully insure every item as in our minds we were only really insuring if the whole lot fell into the sea.

Its not an approach that will suit everyone but we made big savings, so for us it was worth it! :nice1

Cheers

If Crown removers are busy this end they will use another company. Found this out when we asked about removal companies a couple of times. Then when I rang Crown direct they confirmed it :)

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss PSS, after all the sales person is only after business so he will try and use negatives against other companies.

Badger, I agree about needing sales but the one big no no is lying. You just don't do it as all sales are based on degrees of trust which is hard to gain but damn easy to break.

Of course all companies can have issues and things can go wrong, the boat may sink for instance, but then you don't expect to be lied to.
