Has any one experience or an idea of the costs for putting things in store in a Big Yellow or its like.

Are we better using the movers storage or self store?

Thanks.

Hi Hongi Hicker,

We were lucky enough to sell our house last December. It was all very manic as the buyers wanted to be in before Christmas and the Rental house wasn't ready. We didn't want to lose the buyers, so we ended up putting a lot of stuff in Big Yellow storage.

Big Yellow were excellent. They cost about half the price our movers quoted for storage (although the movers did get a bit back by charging us extra for having a second drop off point), and the whole setting up and closing down went without a hitch.

The cost is totally dependent on location and the volume of storage you need, but you can check this on-line at www.bigyellow.co.uk

The other benefit with Big Yellow Storage (for us, anyway) was the ability to access our belongings in the evenings and weekends. That allowed us to sort out all of the things we hadn't got round to sorting out before we moved.

Good luck,
lnz

we've used this type of storage both in the UK and here, its always worth getting a few quotes and comparing the money and the conditions of access.

What happens though when you take your stuff out of somewhere like Big Yellow for shipping, does it need re-packing etc?

I've had a few quotes for storage for a king sized bed, table and 6 chairs and 15 boxes. Thye vary between £8 per week, £50 pick and delivery and £160 per month self storage. I think Big Yellow were among the highest.

Thanks folks,

I think it works out cheaper using the mover, if we take the offer of 4 weeks free that they say would be available. Plus my nails cost a fortune.

Going to get some to come round next month and get quotes for shipping/store in UK and NZ
