Our first year of RM post forwarding will come to an end in a couple of months.
My understanding is that this can be renewed for a second year and must then stop.
Can anyone confirm how the renewal process works?
Do RM send us a letter in advance, must someone visit an Post Office in UK...., can it be renewed by fax/letter etc?
The service has been great and saved us far more than the cost.
Thanks

We did it by phone, although that was because we needed to change the forwarding address. We did get a letter from them.
I think (not certain) you can just do it through the RM website if it's a renewal of the same details and pay using a credit card.
Anyway, we found it a pretty simple process.

Doesn't finish after the second duration as we are in the process of doing it for the 3rd year. Think you'll find that they will contact you by post, as this is what happened last year and this to ourselves.

I organised my redirection over the internet as it was easier and I didn't need ID, however, this was over a month ago and despite receiving a confirmation email, nothing has yet turned up!!! Do the Royal Mail usually send one batch a week or as it comes or when they feel like it?

Of course, you'll all be far too well organised to require a second year of redirection :)

You can renew online paying by debit, or credit card. You need a reference number that is sent with the letter. Simply go to www.royalmail.com/renewal (http://www.royalmail.com/renewal) or phone on +44 1752 387116.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the clarifications.

....or maybe so organised that we "do use a second year"!!?
We've found it has saved us and parents a lot of money. UK magazines, Amazon orders, letters from parents get sent to the UK address and arrive here quite quickly.
I know others have had issues but we don't seem (touch wood) to of had stuff go missing or hassle with the service.

I called Royal Mail on skype last night and even though I have had a confirmation email regarding the redirection, it transpires that even though they took payment and gave me a reference number, it hasn't actually been activated!!! GRRRRRRR. Lets hope they sort it out now.

Hi,
Does anyone know whether you can use RoyalMail to forward to PO Box No?
Not sure how to set this up. I am currently forwarding to a rental address in UK but move out in 2 weeks to a motel for 10 days whilst looking for a rental.
Please any suggestions on what I should do?
Thanks,

I set up my redirection from UK to NZ PO box (online via their website) but it hasn't actually been activated so daily phone calls and emails and being passed from pillar to post to sort this out!
So, in theory, it is possible, practice is another matter.

We've had Royal Mail redirection to a PO box working fine since we set it up. Opened PO box by phone call from UK a few weeks before left.
Mail redirection has worked fine.
You may though find some banks etc in both UK and NZ will not accept PO boxes on application forms, which means you may still need a normal address.

Still no clearer on how to do this. Do i get an po box via privatebox.co.nz then do I need to tell UK Post Office to forward to this PO Box address?
Confused, please help.. Only just over a week to go so need to sort out this ASAP.

Yes you can! Whatever address, be it residential or Post Office Box or Private company, that is the address you put on the Royal Mail redirection form. Just bear in mind that it takes approx 5 working days to activate from the UK end (or in my case, they 'forgot').

Word of caution on renewing for a whole year. If you think you will change address, consider renewing for not much longer than you need. I found that when we moved that we had to pay for a new renewal and effectively lost the rest of the period. So if you paid for 12 months and then moved after 3 months, you would have to pay for a new redirection and would lost 9 months worth of payment. This didn't seem to be clear when we setup. Having said that the whole process is made fairly easy and is great value. I sold up and left UK 2 years ago, and the banks and credit card companies still think I'm living there :laugh

We opened a PO boz at the PostShop nearest to my work and collect redirected UK post from there every few days.

Not sure what private.box.co.nz is. Don't know if this is linked to the PostShops? Maybe phone a sensible postshop near where you will be working/living. You will probably find they will allocate you a PO number if you promise you can visit the shop within a few weeks.
(Remember though they will be shut today 25 April - ANZAC day)

Thanks for replies everyone.
It sounds like the best thing is to sort this out at a Post Shop in Auckland. Would this be best or do I need to do anything with the post office here before I go?
I am in a rental here in UK and can get someone to hold post for me and send out whilst i get mail redirected.

Get a redirection form from any UK post office, or do it online. Difference is that you need ID and proof of address to do it in person at the post office but bizarrely not online!

I cannot see on Royal Mail website where I can forward to a PO BOX in New Zealand. I have no permanent address as staying in Motel for 2 weeks whilst looking for rental.
Unfortunately I am going to have to forward to a friends address until I get a permanent address in Auckland. ;-(
Has anyone ever forwarded from the uk without a permanent address in New Zealand?
Maybe using a PO BOX. etc
