Just wanted to say Hi and what a great site this is!
My husband and I are looking to move to N.Z this year.
I work as a nurse and he is looking to complete his counselling training, poss at Christchurch College.
We live in a beautiful part of Cornwall and are not unhappy with our lot but feel that we can make a better life for ourselves in N.Z.
Haven't told friends and family yet. Any tips on that tricky subject?
Am in process of applying to Nursing Council of New Zealand and have partially completed EOI. Thinking of waiting for registration process to complete before submitting EOI as it will up my points. Currently have 135.
Cheers :cheers

Hello and welcome :) There are some threads on here about the nursing registration. Seems it can take a long time to complete. Hope this isn't the case for you
We put in our EOI on 9th April with 120 points, no job offer and were selected same day. I'm not sure I'd wait to be honest with your healthy total.
Good luck with the process and I hope your husband enjoys his training. I'm a counsellor and have an idea of what life can be like during the training.:roll

hello and welcome (again)
better to have your own thread isn't it? :D
there's plenty of advice available on here about how to approach telling family and friends and people to vent to if it doesn't go well! :D
as Jeannie said 135 is quite a healthy total for EOI, depends how much of a hurry you are in whether you decide to wait for your registration or not :)

Also Hello Mrs B, congrats on the decision to move over. I'm in health care but I'm glad I don't have any registration to go through. ...and I don't think anyone on here will think your mad! As for the family, it all depends how supportive you think they will be. Just make sure they know that New Zealand is accessible and they can visit fairly easily (providing they don't mind flying) and that you can keep in touch using skype etc...makes the news easier to swallow knowing they can keep in touch.

Welcome to the forum Mrs B. I think it takes several (5 or 6) months to get nurse registration. I seem to remember that one forumite had to wait about 9 months!!!!
As for telling family, we have told one half, because we new they would be supportive, but we've not told the other half yet. Thought we would keep it to ourselves until we are further down the line.
Best of luck with your plans.

Hi Mrs B. My registration took about 5 months from when I first submitted it. If you are claiming points for your qualification I think you need to submit your registration number on the EOI. You may beed to check this out. I'm not sure but I think someone else did submit without it, so you never know.
We have told both sets of parents. My mum was ok but my in-laws did not want to discuss it and seemed to bury their heads in the sand. They then took to emotional pressure on the kids. Now the house has sold (hopefully) they realise that we are going and do mention it occasionally but our relationship with them is not what it used to be. It is their problem - not ours. Sad but true. Hope it goes better for you.

Welcome to the madhouse guys. Yes, Cornwall is a nice spot in the UK, and I often feel that people who have a comfortable life in the UK can sometimes feel a bit let down for want of a better term, especially with the differences in wages and working patterns. But taking this in to consideration at this stage will stand you in good stead if you do get down here. Go into this process with eyes wide open and you will be well prepared. This forum is a huge benefit too.
Good luck and welcome to the roller coaster :nice1

Well I feel much better already! :)
Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement.
I haven't any helpful hints or experience to pass onto others yet but will be sure to do so further down the line.......
Am very pleased/excited to be part of the 'Bonkers' group!
Will check out the suggested threads/info and 'go boldly' hurrah and hazzarrh!!!
