I could not find the answer to this on this forum.
I will be receiving a job offer for 4 months from a NZ employer. I want to apply for a temp work visa, will my work visa be valid for only 4 months then? I was really hoping I would get one for a year.
Has anyone experienced something similar or know how this works?

I don't think that NZIS would approve such a short work contract. I think they need at least 12 months permanent contract.

I had an unusual situation where my first contract was 4 months; There was a verbal understanding that it would be continued at a different position afterwards.
We had applied through the skilled migrant process, but it clearly would not come through before my start date; so I sent the letter and my passport to NZ Embassy in Washington DC, and they granted me a work permit for the 4 months in one day.
They said it would be no problem extending it in NZ, but that I would need to show the formal job offer for a longer period.
Note that 24 months is a "magical" threshold as a 24 month work visa gives you many of the benefits of permanent residency.

Chris
