I have a few potential options. If I get a role with someone like Vodafone, they are an approved sponsor and should be no issues.
I have a potential offer which will see me be part of a new startup business, within my field and potentially as someone that may have ownership in this business.
We currently have an EOI in, Selected, waiting for ITA or something to happen.
The question I have. Can a new company sponsor me or does this look dodgy? What would they need to do to be pre approved or does it not really matter?
I am assuming it might be a new company - I dont know - perhaps the people I am talking to might have another avenue or business they can use - have not got to this level of detail yet. At least if I can find some information here - I might be able to get them to find out when they are back in NZ after our face to face meeting later.
Thanks.

Do they not have to be accreditated employers on approved list by NZIS?? Not sure but vaguely remember something about this - sure someone else will be along shortly to help out :)

This is what I am unsure about myself. Ive heard both stories. Might do some more research tonight and see if I can find the relevant information.

OK, this is the info that was found today by a friend local in NZ that called Immigration on our behalf. Just to save time to not retype all the info, below is a copy of the email sent to one of the person's involved explaining the items. Ive *** names for obvious reasons.
"****,
Some info that you might want to discuss with *** and **** or just keep in mind for discussions as planned. I asked a friend there to do some information searching for me, having been through the process recently. She called them this morning (local time) and this is the info received.
With respect of sponsorship, the following needs to be considered.
Any company (start up or existing) can sponsor. Companies such as Vodafone that would be accredited for sponsorship do not need to comply to some of the criteria as they would have gone through a process to become approved.
We already have our expression of interest submitted and it has been approved for further consideration. A job offer from a sponsor (approved or unapproved sponsor) will give us an extra 50 points and fast track the application on the basis that it is in IT which is a recognized skill shortage area.
For **** / ****'s company to be able to sponsor, they need to advertise the role in NZ and then submit proof of payment for the adverts, copies of the adverts (local media / internet etc) and evidence of CVs received, considered.
The 2nd element, on the basis of it being a new company, is that they need to show that they can support this business. Some form of business plan / idea and some proof of financials would suffice in this regard. What they are trying to see is that the role is credible, the planned company and its activity is credible and that the company has the ability to support me in the form of salary etc.
They need to complete a short 3-4 page document, along with the items above for the sponsorship to be approved.
The temporary work permit only takes a few weeks at most to sort out, often held back by things such as medicals which we have already done. On that basis we could technically be in NZ within a matter of weeks, legally working and will then progress our Expression of Interest for Permanent Residence at our own pace."
Perhaps if anyone knows something that contradicts, please correct me. Hopefully this info might be useful to others.

Thanks - reading some of the info there.
Have a bit of a concern from something else I read now.
To qualify for a work permit / job offer, it needs to be in the Immediate and/or Long term skilled shortage areas - is this correct?
Is it correct that one has to have a IT degree and relevant experience for IT on the basis of a temp work permit / sponsorship?
My background is electrical engineering, not computer science however I have over 7 years of full time 'niche' telecoms / IT experience. Is this an issue?

as long as you have some IT work experience I don't see it being a problem, at least I can't see what problem there might be.
I don't have an IT degree certainly, just several years work experience and my future job is in IT and nothings been raised with me about relevance.

Thanks. My friend that is now local and working on a work permit (not in IT) seems to think similar and that it is not an issue.
